Fire of Europe has been founded to improve understanding and communication between the different nations that form the European Union. More and more decisions are taking place at the European level. At this level democratic controls are lacking, exacerbating the disconnect between the decision takers and the European citizen. To contribute to democracy in Europe we aim to critically report on what goes on at the EU level. As this level is influenced by what goes on nationally we also aim to report on what goes on in all member states. Due to the language barrier it seems easier to follow the news of the United States or the United Kingdom while what happens in France or Germany is equally if not more important to the European reader.

We do not accept the narrative that it is not possible to critically discuss the most important topics. On areas such as monetary policy, migration policy and environmentalism European institutions are taking far-ranging decisions, asserting that there is only one answer to each of these problems and avoiding political discussion. We assert that decisions taken in these fields are highly political. Therefore we aim to start a European popular discourse.

We are actively looking for new contributors so come write with us! Lets make our Europe even better together.
